Baden Powell College implements a consistent approach to reading by utilising the reading instructional framework. The framework aims to improve students reading comprehension by engaging students in purposeful learning activities in small/whole group situations. Within the instructional framework, activities are designed to develop students’ fluency, reading comprehension, vocabulary development and word knowledge.
In writing, students participate in the development of various creative and non-fiction texts. Within writing sessions, children aim to develop sentence structure, expressive language and understand of the writing process. Students will be able to identify the purpose, structure and textual/language features of the different text types.
Numeracy in 3-6 is taught with a focus on developing students’ content knowledge through implementing problem solving activities and the real world application of skills. We endeavour to support students to recognise how mathematics in the classroom connects to maths in everyday life. The Victorian Curriculum is designed to scaffold students understanding within mathematics through a supportive framework that enables students to feel comfortable taking the next step in their learning.
