The purpose of the ‘Big Ideas’ units of work is to develop an inquiry mind in our students and encourage them to be curious and question the world around them using critical and creative thinking. Students will be encouraged to use their imaginations. Students will learn skills to enable them to pose questions and actions, investigate, sort information and present or action their findings.
Big Ideas integrates the English curriculum through correct use of grammar, spelling strategies for new words, and writing conventions in writing, researching in reading and speaking and listening skills. Numeracy skills can also be integrated and are often utilised to sort and present information such as venn diagrams, tables, graphs.
